<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder capable of highly efficiently detecting a magnetic field. <P>SOLUTION: The magnetic encoder includes: a belt-like magnetic medium magnetized at a predetermined pitch in the longitudinal direction; a magnetic sensor 1 for detecting a magnetic field from the magnetic medium while sliding on the surface of the magnetic medium in the longitudinal direction; and a suspension for supporting the magnetic sensor 1 and energizing the magnetic sensor 1 to the surface of the magnetic medium. The magnetic medium is attached to, for example, the outer surface of a cylindrical rotor such that the longitudinal direction thereof accords with the rotation direction of the rotor. The magnetic sensor 1 includes: a magnetic resistance effect element 22 provided on a substrate 21; and second and third insulating layers Z2 and Z3 covering the element 22. A facing surface 1S facing the magnetic medium has such a shape that, in a cross section in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic medium, a central region WR1 on which the magnetic resistance effect element 22 is disposed is protruded the most. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
