Provided are a focus control device, endoscope system and focus control method which, when performing AF with a 1-group drive lens, suppress adverse effects due to magnification variation occurring during AF evaluation value acquisition. This focus control device includes: a focus control unit (330) which controls driving an imaging optical system in which the focus object position changes with changes of the imaging magnification; an image acquisition unit (310) which, by means of imaging via the imaging optical system, acquires multiple images imaged at different imaging magnifications; and a magnification variation detection unit (320) which detects magnification variation, which is variation in imaging magnification and/or in the size of the imaged body in the images. The focus control unit (330) controls focusing of the imaging optical system by driving the imaging optical system on the basis of an AF evaluation value which is calculated on the basis of the images and the magnification variation and which represents the focusing state of the imaging optical system. |
