[Also in Divisions F2 and F4] Liquid separated from compressed gas periodically drained from collecting sump 2 by a quick-acting drain valve 26, which is opened by a magnet 39 attracting armature 42 when a float 44 has lifted armature 42 sufficiently. As liquid accumulates, float 44 is lifted, its bush 45 sliding along coaxial piston 43, until the edge 46 of bush 45 engages armature 42, after which armature 42 and piston 43 slide on rod 37 into the magnetic field and armature 42 is drawn into engagement with abutment 47, which lifts rod 37 lifting sealing member 36 off the valve seat 27. As liquid is blown through valve 26 and outlet 33 by the gas pressure, float 44 falls, but armature 42 and piston 43 are retained by magnet 39, until the lower end of bush 45 engages valve seat 27 (as shown) and stops the liquid flow. Edge 46 of bush 45 and piston 43 provide a restricted gap by which gas escapes through open valve 26 so that the resulting pressure differential depresses piston 43, pulling armature 42 away from the magnet and closing valve 26 again. A handle 38 on the upper end of rod 37 permits manual operation of valve 26. Gas flowing from inlet 6 to outlet 7 passes through sintered filter 8 and cyclone chamber 23, with inclined vanes 22 and baffle 20. Valve seat 27 is vertically adjustable. Magnet 39 may be a permanent or electro-magnet, and is mounted in a non-magnetic plate 24. Sealing member 36 is ball-shaped, of soft material and secured by adhesive to member 34, attached to rod 37.</p> |
