<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively enhance startability of an internal combustion engine in a cold start-up, in regard to a controller for the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This controller is a controller for the engine 1 provided with a variable valve gear 30, and includes a cooling water temperature sensor 48 for detecting a cooling water temperature, and a valve opening and closing control part 52 for controlling an opening and closing operation of an intake and exhaust valve 33 by the variable valve gear 30, by conducting change-over selectively between a usual operation mode of executing compression and expansion at least once between intake and exhaust, and a cold start-up mode of conducting the compression and expansion between the intake and the exhaust once more than those in the usual operation mode, as the operation modes for the engine 1, and the valve opening and closing control part 52 selects the cold start-up mode when a detection value in the cooling water temperature sensor 48 is lower than the first determination threshold value, and selects the usual operation mode when the detection value in the cooling water temperature sensor 48 is the first determination threshold value or more. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
