The invention relates to a tool holder for a road milling machine or similar, comprising a base part, on which a tool shank and a collar are formed, the collar having a tool receiving opening and said opening being formed from a bush-type insert consisting of a hard material. In a tool holder of this type, in order to promote good rotational behaviour of the tool and guarantee support for the latter without the need for numerous parts, the tool receiving opening is designed as a stepped bore that has a first and a second diameter region, the first diameter region having a greater inner diameter than the second diameter region.
