<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner capable of being downsized, while inhibiting flare light from being mixed into light for writing. <P>SOLUTION: A scanning optical system A includes: a scanning lens 2105<SB POS="POST">1</SB>; a polarization separation element 2110<SB POS="POST">1</SB>; two specially tilted decentered lenses (2107a, 2107b); and five turning mirrors (2106a, 2106b, 2108a, 2108b, 2109a). A scanning optical system B includes: a scanning lens 2105<SB POS="POST">2</SB>; a polarization separation element 2110<SB POS="POST">2</SB>; two tilted decentered lenses (2107c, 2107d); and five turning mirrors (2106c, 2106d, 2108c, 2108d, 2109d).
