<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the residence time of a liquid to be treated as much as possible during evaporative concentration. <P>SOLUTION: The bottom part of an evaporator 1 for storing a liquid to be treated is divided into a plurality of sections, for example two sections. Each divided section 18<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, 18<SB POS="POST">2</SB>is made into a cone shape having horizontal cross sectional area tapering downward in order to reduce the amount of the liquid stored in the evaporator, that is, to reduce the amount of the liquid contained.
