PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accessory having high communication security.

SOLUTION: Provided is an accessory (400) which can communicate with a camera (10). The accessory comprises a terminal unit (423) having a plurality of terminals (Ts1 to Ts12). The plurality of terminals includes: a startup state providing terminal (Ts7) for providing the camera with a detection level (DET) which enables the camera to detect the accessory being able to be started up; a data signal terminal (Ts6) for outputting a data signal (DATA) including information about the accessory to the camera; and a first reference potential terminal (Ts5) which becomes a reference potential of the detection level and the data signal. The startup state providing terminal is arranged side by side with the data signal terminal and the first reference potential terminal is arranged side by side with the data signal terminal, such that the data signal terminal is arranged between the startup state providing terminal and the first reference potential terminal.
