The purpose of the present invention is to provide an alkyl-modified PVA solution which, even when the concentration of the alkyl-modified PVA in the solution is increased, has low viscosity and excellent handling at high temperatures and rapidly thickens when the temperature sinks. This invention contains alkyl-modified vinyl alcohol polymers, a surfactant and water. The alkyl-modified vinyl alcohol polymers contain monomer units having a C5-29 alkyl group, wherein the content ratio of the monomer units is 0.05-5 mol%, the saponification of the alkyl-modified vinyl alcohol polymers is 20-99.99 mol%, and the surfactant is a compound represented by formula (I) and having hydrophilic groups (X1, X2) and a C3-5 alkylenoxy group (-R1-O-). |
