The invention relates to a food-handling apparatus, in particular to a deck oven, and to a method for moving a door (14) of such an apparatus. The invention addresses the problem of providing a food-handling apparatus which has a door (14) which can be pivoted about a horizontal spindle (12) and closes from the inside and a method which is intended for moving such a door (14) and by means of which the inside of the door can be cleaned conveniently and reliably. A food-handling apparatus according to the invention comprises a door mechanism having a door (14) which can be pivoted about a horizontal spindle (12), closes an opening (16) of the apparatus in a closed position, by butting against a stop (18) from the inside, and releases an opening (16) of the apparatus in an open position, by being pivoted inwards about the horizontal spindle (12). The door mechanism has means which allow the door (14) and stop (18) to move relative to one another such that the door can pass the stop (18) in the door-opening direction in order to assume a cleaning position.
