PURPOSE: A method for detecting origins of a recording device and a returning roller is provided to prepare a trigger member which is joined to a paper supply roller by a friction rotation coupling, thereby obtaining an origin of the returning roller at high precision without installing a new electric device and wiring for the same. CONSTITUTION: A recording device comprises a roller, a rotating unit, a contact member, and a detecting unit. The rotating unit includes a protrusion portion(1302a) and rotates with the roller. The contact unit can be in contact with the protrusion portion. The detecting unit detects the contact of the contact member with the protrusion unit. A rotary origin of the roller is set based on the detection of the detection unit. The contact member cannot contact to the protrusion unit at a first position and can contact to the protrusion unit at a second position. The detecting unit detects the contact when the contact member is positioned at the second position.
