In an electrolytic capacitor, leakage of electrolyte is prevented by the provision, at potential leakage paths, of a thick paste or gel impermeable to the electrolyte. The paste or gel may be of the kind referred to in Specification 1,026,934, which is permeable to gases developed in the element. Preferably the paste or gel is formed in situ when the electrolyte contacts a precursor substance, e.g. ethyl hydroxy-cellulose, starch, gum tragacanth and the thickening agents referred to in Specification 1,020,765. Such substances in powder form are first rubbed into the appropriate parts of phenol-formaldehyde resin layer 4 and rubber layer 5 comprising disc 3 and the paste or gel is formed at locations 13 and 14. |
