<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently extract light radiated into air by a light emitter. <P>SOLUTION: A substrate layer, a first layer, an active layer, and a second layer are laminated sequentially. A single layer or a plurality of layers having a two-dimensional periodic structure on a surface are provided at the upper portion of the active layer. The second layer has an intermediate layer having a refractive index that is nearly equal to that of the active layer in the two-dimensional periodic structure, or near it. The intermediate layer plays a role of directional coupling, and reinforces the coupling between the active layer and the two-dimensional periodic structure, thus improving a light extraction effect. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
