<p>Biologically active, proteinaceous materials, e.g. bacteria, bacterial metabolites, viruses, sera and enzymes are protected from loss of activity by addition thereto of from 0.5 to 5% by weight of a cross-linked collagen degradation product which is either a) a collagen which is first hydrolytically degraded to a product having a M.W. of 2,000 to 20,000 which is then cross-linked with a polyfunctional isocyanate to yield a product with a M.W. of 15,000 to 60,000, or b) a collagen which is first cross-linked with a polyfunctional isocyanate and is then hydrobytically degraded to yield a product with a M.W. of 15,000 to 60,000. The examples relate to the stabilization of numerous vaccine materials, e.g. pertussis and BCG vaccines, diphtheria and tetanus toxoid, tuberculin, viruses, e.g. polio virus and Newcastle disease virus, sera e.g. rickettsia antiserum and enzymes e.g. plasmin and streptokinase.</p> |
