The hydraulic piston-lever actuator of specification No. 1065190 is adapted to rotate a cover about a hinge joint between closed and open positions with respect to an opening in a fixed structure in that the shaft of the actuator is rigidly mounted on the fixed structure in the hinge joint between it and the cover, and the housing of the actuator is secured to the cover. The actuator has a cylinder chamber 11 opening at one end into a head chamber 12 and closed at the other end by an end cap 13. The head chamber 12 of the actuator 5 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 27 which is rigidly mounted (Fig. 1, not shown) on the deck structure (8) in the hinge joint between the cover (7) and the deck, by means of a pair of parallel brackets (28) rigidly mounted on a beam (29) of the deck framework. The shaft 27 is prevented from rotation by pins (30) mounted in the brackets (28) and extending through the end portions of the shaft. Longitudinally reciprocable in the cylinder chamber 11 is a piston 14 connected by a rod 15, to a torque arm 32 fixedly splined over the shaft 27. Hydraulic fluid for the cover opening actuation is introduced into the cylinder chamber 11 by a supply pipe 24 connected through the boss 21. For the cover closing operation hydraulic fluid is introduced by a supply pipe 25 leading into the head chamber 12. Pipes 24 and 25 are integrated in a hydraulic control system which regulates the pressure introduction and bleed off. Both the head portion and the cylinder portion of the actuator are secured to the framework of the cover (7). |
