A light for airfield lighting comprising at least a housing having at least one light exit for light emitted by at least one LED, at least one heating element for heating at least the light exit, and a controlling unit configured for being connected to an external current source and being configured for controlling the powerlevel of the LED, may be operated safely if the controlling unit is configured for controlling the power level of the heating element such that the total power consumption of the light is smaller or equal to a given power limit.
