In a troughed idler assembly, the centre roller 11 overlaps the inner ends of the wing idlers 13, 13, the latter being supported by leaf springs 13C. The support cradle 12 of the assembly may be rigidly supported, or (as shown) may be suspended from rope side frame members 14. In a modification (Figs. 2A and 2B, not shown), the springs 13C are coil springs. In a further modification (Figs. 3A and 3B, not shown), the springs 13C are replaced by a single spring connecting the respective floating ends of the wing rollers. In a further modification (Figs. 4A and 4B, not shown), the centre roller is connected pivotally at each of its ends to respective rigid links (42), the outer end of each of which is clamped to the appropriate side frame rope member. Each wing roller is mounted on the respective link (42). In a modification of the latter construction, the wing rollers are mounted at their outer ends on the respective clamps (53) to which the centre roller is connected. At their inner ends the wing rollers are mutually connected by a rigid link (52b).
