Hydrophobic polymeric resins have dispersed therein, as an antistatic agent, a minor amount of a mono- and/or di- and/or tri-phosphate ester of a nonionic surfactant condensation product of (a) an organic compound containing at least 6 carbons which is capable of condensing with an alkylene oxide and (b) at least 1 molar proportion of an alkylene oxide. Resins specified are polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl fluoride, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylidene chloride, polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymers, acrylonitrile-styrene copolymers, acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene copolymers, rubber hydrochloride, cellulose acetate, triacetate, butyrate or nitrate, ethyl cellulose, nylon, polycarbonates and polyethylene terephthalate. Suitable antistatic agents include the phosphate esters of condensation products of (a) alkyl phenols, aliphatic alcohols, fatty acids, amides and amines, rosin amine, alkyl and alkaryl sulphonamides, and alkyl and alkaryl mercaptans and (b) 1 to 150 molar proportions of alkylene oxides having 2 to 12 carbon atoms. The acid phosphate esters may be partially or completely neutralized, if desired, e.g. in the form of metal (e.g. alkali or alkaline earth metal), ammonium or amine salts. The antistatic agent can be incorporated in the molten polymer or solutions of the polymer or can be added to the corresponding monomer before polymerization thereof. The polymers may be formed into articles such as films.
