A method for assigning two ophthalmic lenses of progressive addition type to right and left eyes of a wearer of said lenses comprises determining which one of the wearer's eyes is reference eye for contrast perception. Then, the reference eye so-determined is equipped with a lens optimized for far vision, and the other eye is equipped with a lens optimized for near vision. The binocular vision of the wearer is thus corrected, while unwanted astigmatism and optical distortions produced by the lenses are reduced.
