The invention relates to a method for determining the state of operation, especially the sluggishness and/or smooth running, of an electromechanical adjusting mechanism used for influencing an exhaust gas flow of an exhaust gas turbocharger in a vehicle, particularly a motor vehicle. Said method comprises the following steps: the electric power consumption is measured as an actual value of an electric servomotor of the adjusting mechanism; the measured power consumption is compared with a reference value representing a reference state of operation of the adjusting mechanism; and a signal is output when the actual value differs from the reference value by more than a predefined tolerance.
