In a rolled capacitor of the type in which electrical connection is made to non-overlapping portions of the electrode foils extending from opposite ends of the capacitor roll, increased area to which the soldered connections are made is provided by a metal-removing operation whereby the projecting ends terminate in oblique planes. The electrode foils may be aluminium, copper or steel and the dielectric may be paper, polystyrene, polypropylene, P.T.F.E., polyester, polycarbonate or cellulose triacetate. The metal foil may be coated on one or both sides with the dielectric, e.g. vapourdeposited polyparaxylylene, and two such coated foils wound in partially overlapping relationship, or metallized dielectric strips may be used. As shown, the roll is flattened to eliminate the core, and the marginal portions cut, ground or shaved to an oblique plane. Leads 35, 36 are soldered to the exposed surfaces after these have been given a flame-sprayed copper coating 38. The capacitor may then be encapsulated. Reliable connections may be made to capacitors having only one turn. |
