Medical devices, and in particular implantable medical devices, may be
coated to minimize or substantially eliminate a biological organism''s reaction
to
the introduction of the medical device to the organism. An implantable medical
device including a substantially tubular member and at least one agent
includes a basecoat matrix and a topcoat. The basecoat matrix includes a
mixture of the agent and a fluoropolymer. The topcoat includes a second
acrylic polymeric material. The fluoropolymer and acrylic are layered and
immiscible and configured as a chemical and physical barrier to elution.
