PURPOSE: A refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to enable control of each compartment to have high or low temperature. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a user interface(68), a temperature sensor(65) of a high temperature compartment, a temperature sensor(66) of a low temperature compartment, a temperature sensor(67) of a defrosting heater(50), an operation unit(62), and a control unit(60). The user interface includes an input unit(63) which controls a function of the refrigerator and a display unit(64) for displaying a state or operation information of the refrigerator. The temperature sensor of the high temperature compartment senses the temperature of the high temperature compartment, and the temperature sensor of the low temperature compartment senses the temperature of the low temperature compartment. The temperature sensor of the defrosting heater senses the temperature of the defrosting heater. The operation unit operates a compressor(41), a damper(52) of the low temperature compartment, a damper(53) of the high temperature compartment, a blowing fan(48), and the defrosting heater. The control outputs control signals for controlling the operation of the compressor, the dampers for high and low temperature compartments, the blowing fan, and the defrosting heater according to the temperature sensed by the each temperature sensor or according to user input by the input unit to the operation unit.
