The invention relates to a method for refilling a cartridge with ammonia, said cartridge comprising a salt capable of absorbing gaseous ammonia and releasing it by heating the cartridge or depressurising the cartridge, said salt having been saturated at least once with ammonia in order to form a complex salt compacted to a density at least equal to 80% of the theoretical density of the complex salt, the refilling being carried out by introducing gaseous ammonia into the cartridge, characterized in that the cartridge is cooled to a temperature below 10°C during the refilling phase.
