A short-range sensor unit (5) i.e. photo-electric sensor, is oriented in direction of a set of fingers or palm of the hand of the machine operator. The sensor is placed in a hollow portion in a vertical concave surface. The sensor is arranged in an interaction zone (3) of the machine operator. The sensor is arranged with a test logic.
