<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection apparatus that detects micro-scratches and burrs formed on the surface and inside of metal and plastic components, configured to have detection accuracy and speed higher than that in visual inspection and higher detection accuracy than that of an automatic detection device using a conventional image processing technology, and to provide a detection method. <P>SOLUTION: The detection apparatus includes: a mechanism for rotating, tilting and stopping an inspection component and a non-defective standard component having the same shape as the inspection component, in the same way; a camera for capturing the images of the components every time they are stopped; an illumination for achieving effective imaging; an image processing computer for comparing the images of the components superimposed by the computer; and a monitor for displaying differences between the images of the components as scratches and burrs.
