<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument for proving at least one-directional articulation of about 90 degrees without sacrificing the existing important benefits of the surgical instrument. <P>SOLUTION: A surgical apparatus includes: a handle assembly; an elongated body portion extended from the handle assembly toward in a distal direction and defining a first longitudinal axis; a tool assembly pivotally supported on the distal end of the elongated body portion around a pivot axis, which is substantially perpendicular to the first longitudinal axis; and a flexible drive assembly including a flexible drive member extending from the proximal end to the distal end of the pivot axis, and a gear drive assembly, as an interface with the flexible drive member, enabling the movement of the distal end of the flexible drive member with respect to the tool assembly. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
