<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an device which can carry out favorable agitation without needing a mechanical driving source even in a deep container. <P>SOLUTION: A agitator 10 is provided with a cylindrical container (12) which accommodates liquid inside and has an inner diameter D, and a nozzle (14) for blowing gas into liquid is arranged about at a center of a bottom wall of the cylindrical container. A flow rate Qa of gas blown into the liquid from the nozzle is not smaller than a flow rate satisfying ρ<SB POS="POST">L</SB>Qa<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/(σ<SB POS="POST">L</SB>D<SP POS="POST">3</SP>)=10<SP POS="POST">-5</SP>(where ρ<SB POS="POST">L</SB>denotes liquid density and σ<SB POS="POST">L</SB>denotes liquid surface tension) and is not larger than a flow rate at which no gas bubble blows through a liquid level of liquid. There is provided a jet stream passing pipe (16) the lower end of which is located at a place remote from the nozzle by a predetermined space and an upper end of which is located at a place of a depth H<SB POS="POST">1</SB>from the liquid level and which extends about in a vertical direction.
