<p>1,070,455. Steering road rollers. WALLIS & STEEVENS Ltd. April 12, 1966 [April 12. 1965], No. 15558/65. Heading B7H. A tricycle road roller includes steering means whereby the front and rear rollers r and R, R are turned about vertical axes A, B through respective angles such that overlap of the rollers is maintained to a predetermined minimum turning radius. Such minimum radius is not necessarily the smallest in which the roller can be turned. Hydraulic rams c, c<SP>1</SP> linked to the front roller fork e and to a transmission g housing the axle of the rear rollers R, R are connected in parallel to a control valve actuated by a steering wheel and supplied from a reservoir by an engine-driven pump. A mechanical linkage n, o, p interconnects the fork e and casing g to maintain the correct relationship between the steering angles. The steering means may be mechanically, electrically or pneumatically operated. Provision may be made for preventing turning of the rear rollers R, R about the axis B when required, so that steering may be effected by turning the front roller r only.</p> |
