A tool that is capable of reducing the maximum value of a cutting resistance when adjacent peripheral cutting edges are simultaneously cutting a workpiece is provided. The lead (L) of a helical flute (21), the pitch (P) of a waveform, the number (N) of peripheral cutting edges (22), and a natural number (m), are set so as to satisfy, L/N = m × P - P/N ± P/2 or L/N = m × P + P/N ± P/2. Therefore, when adjacent peripheral cutting edges (22) are simultaneously cutting a workpiece, adjacent waveforms that simultaneously come into contact with the workpiece are capable of forming an anti-phase relationship. Consequently, the lengths of the cutting edges that simultaneously come into contact with the workpiece are reduced, enabling the maximum value of a cutting resistance to be reduced.
|
