摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an excessive temperature rise in a non paper passing area of a fixing belt 1 without increasing the size of a device. <P>SOLUTION: When image formation is performed on a recording material whose width is narrower than a maxim-width recording material, an outside core 7a is evacuated so that a non paper passing area of a fixing belt 1 does not excessively increase its temperature, while the fixing belt 1 can increase its temperature in an area W among the non paper passing area. That is, a magnetic flux in the area W of the fixing belt 1 is not shielded by a magnetic flux shielding plate 11. In order to suppress the excessive temperature rise of the fixing belt 1 in the area W, an even heat roller 9 is contacted with a pressure roller 2 to indirectly cool the fixing belt 1.
