<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the complexity of control resulting from reproduction of data of a recording layer by appropriately determining whether a recording medium can be reproduced or not and determining a layer used for tracking, in the recording layer of the recording medium, for the recording medium that has a guide layer with a spiral track to which address information has been added and has a recording layer on which information can be recorded and reproduced and which is provided with no tracking grooves. <P>SOLUTION: First information indicating whether an unrecorded area has been left in the recording layer or not is read from a managed information storage area. If the first information indicates that the unrecorded area is present, a tracking process is performed in the guide layer. If the first information indicates that an unrecorded area is not present, a tracking process is performed in the recording layer by using data having been recorded in the recording layer. This makes it possible to determine whether the production of data is possible or not, by performing the tracking process in the recording layer by use of one laser beam in data reproduction as by a record reproduction device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
