A control device of an internal combustion engine having a multicore processor equipped with a plurality of cores and being capable of using the plurality of cores to perform various calculations relating to the operations of the internal combustion engine in parallel, the control device comprising a calculation means for assigning the task of calculation to at least one of the plurality of cores and performing the calculation, an EGR means for controlling an EGR operation of circulating gas flowing through an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine to an intake system, and a control means for reducing the number of cores used by the calculation means when the EGR operation has stopped so that the number of cores used after the stop is fewer than before the stop. The calculation means includes an assigning means for assigning a specified task associated with the EGR operation to one or a plurality of designated cores, and the control means stops the designated cores when the EGR operation has stopped.
