<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel capable of shortening time required to detect a focus condition of an optical system. <P>SOLUTION: A lens barrel comprises: an optical system which has a focus adjustment optical system 32; a drive section 36 which drives the focus adjustment optical system 32 in an optical axis direction; a reception section which receives, from a camera body, a drive signal to drive the focus adjustment optical system 32 by either an initial drive system to drive the focus adjustment optical system 32 with a predetermined scan start position as a target stop position, a scan drive system to drive the focus adjustment optical system 32 while detecting a focus condition of the optical system or a focus drive system to drive the focus adjustment optical system 32 with a focus position as the target stop position; and a control section 37 which controls drive of the focus adjustment optical system 32 by the drive section on the basis of the drive signal.
