Iron oxides and a promoter such as alumina, potassium oxide and lithium oxide, but without any other adjuvants are fused and reduced at 500 DEG C. The product is coarsely ground and agglomerated into pellets by compression to give ammonia synthesis catalyst pellets having macropores of a diameter equal to or greater than 2000 </>rAngstroms distributed in a microcrystalline mass of completely reduced alpha iron.ALSO:Iron oxides and a promoter material e.g. alumina, potassium oxide and lithium oxide, but without binders, fluxes or additional adjuvants are fused, then subjected to reduction at 500 DEG C; the product is coarsely ground and then agglomerated into pellets by compression to give ammonia synthesis catalyst pellets of macropores distributed in a micro-crystalline mass of completely reduced alpha iron. The fused mixture may be ground before reduction and rendered antipyrophoric. |
