The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for making perforations in a packaging material, in particular a polymer film (2), comprising a conveyor for transporting the material (2) along a path through the apparatus (1), a laser device (7) with adjustable focal point, and an in-line optical detector (8) for measuring one or more parameters of the perforations made with the beam.
