The stability of a polyolefin is improved by dispersing the purified polyolefin powder in an inert hydrocarbon, admixing therewith a boron halide or boron halide etherate and an organic peroxide, heating, separating and then washing with the inert hydrocarbon. In examples, heptane and hexane are used as media, dibenzoyl-, diacetyl-, dicumyl- and di-t-butylare the peroxides used, and the boron compound is BF3, BCl3, BF3.O(C2H5)2 or BCl3.O(C2H5)2. The treated products are tested for stability in compositions containing dilauryl thiodipropionate and 4,41-thio-bis-(3-Me-6-t-Bu-phenol). |
