Registration of peer to peer services

Techniques for registration of peer-to-peer (P2P) services are provided. A first principal (303) registers a P2P service (301A) with a network service provider (302). The first principal supplies a criterion for granting access to the P2P service. The network service provider distributes an access token to a second principal (301B) if the criterion is met. The second principal connects to the P2P service of the first principal via a P2P connection (301D) if the second principal successfully acquires the access token from the network service provider. The access token may be used by another second version (301C) of the P2P service that is adapted to process on a client of the second principal (301B), the second version (301C) and the P2P service (301A) being adapted to interact directly with one another over the P2P network connection (301D).
