Type-wheels machines; index setting arrangements; pneumatic impression arrangements.- An embossing machine comprises a pair of axially spaced circular plates 6, 7 provided at equally spaced peripheral distances with axially aligned embossing dies 8, 9, which are selectively indexed under an hydraulically or pneumatically operated ram 4, which is operated by variable pressure 17 to effect embossing on a plate disposed between the dies. 'Circular plates are indexed with respect to a fixed pointer 15, a character on scale 14 indicating the character disposed under the ram 4. Card holders.-Embossing plate is mounted in recess 13 of traversable carriage 12 slidable in guide rails 11 and aligned for embossing using a scale 16. Type-wheel construction: types, dies and printing surfaces.-Circular plates 6, 7 are provided with peripheral apertures in which are received the dies 8, 9. Die 8 is slidable and is provided with a shank 8a (Fig. 2) which protrudes above the upper surface of plate 6 to receive a spring which is retained by a screwed disc 8b. Die 9 is fixed and is provided with a locating shank 9a and secured by a screw 10. Each die is provided with replaceable die members 19 which are attached to the dies by a dove-tailed tongue-and-groove connection and readily aligned by provision of a spring-biased pin 22 in the shanks of the dies which engage in recesses 23 of die members 19.</p> |
