PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire rod for a fastening component which is free from problems such as dust generated upon wire drawing therein, and also imparts stable lubricity to the surface of a fastening component after cold plastic working and heat treatment such as quenching/tempering treatment in the production process of the fastening component. SOLUTION: The steel wire rod for a fastening component has a lubricant film composed of, as essential components, (a) an alkali metal silicate in which the molar ratio of SiO<SB>2</SB>/M<SB>2</SB>O (M represents alkali metal) is 2 to 5, (b) calcium salt of fatty acid and (c) polyolefin wax, wherein the mass ratios of (b) and (c) to the total solid content are 6 to 50 mass% and 1 to 20 mass%, respectively.
