A pneumatic tyre of the type in which the carcass is reinforced by cords 2 lying in radial planes and the tread 3 by at least two plies 5, 6, the cords of plies 5, 6 running in different directions, also has two axially spaced marginal bands 12, 13 having transverse stiffness but circumferential flexibility, the bands comprising either plies of metal cords lying in planes within 30 degrees of the radial or strips of elastomer of elasticity modulus exceeding 800 gm./mm. Each band may be 32 . . . 41% of the tread in width, and the bands may be located between the carcass and tread reinforcement as shown, below the carcass reinforcement (Fig. 5, not shown) or immediately above the lowest ply 5 of the tread reinforcement. |
