A tedder comprises a draft frame 10 carrying a rotor-assembly consisting of a horizontal shaft extending transverse to the direction of travel, tines T being distributed along the shaft, which is rotated so that the tines move upwardly and rearwardly from their lowermost position, but non-uniformly, the tines being alternately rotated and retarded so that during their retarded phase the tines pick up cropmaterial, owing to their forward bodily travel, which material they shed during their subsequent rapid rotation. Each tine is S-shaped and is clamped to the shaft at its mid-point. The shaft is surrounded by a . sleeve 102 comprising two semi-cylindrical portions fitting together to leave slots through which the tines protrude. Two fixed rods 26, 28 extend parallel to, but above, the rotor and these rods may carry a series of wire crop-strippers 160 extending between adjacent tines. The frame 10 is carried by two wheels, one of which 40 rotates idly while the other, 38, drives the rotor-shaft through gearing. The gearing may comprise either a series of elliptical gears or mutilated gears. If elliptical gears are used, the tines are alternatively accelerated and retarded, but with mutilated gearing the tines' rotation is arrested during part of their cycle. The wheel 38 can be disconnected from the drive-shaft, for transport, so that the tines are not then driven. |
