In electrophoretically coating an article by connecting it to one pole of a D.C. source and passing it through liquid coating material in a bath connected to the other pole, after withdrawing the article from the bath jets of coating material are directed on to part of the article which was immersed. Preferably the nozzles supplying the jets of coating material are connected to the same pole as the bath. As described, the articles are supported from a carriage on a conveyer rail by an insulator, electrical connection to the article being effected by a brush contact engaging a bus-bar. The coating material is an aqueous film-forming organic material dispersion or colloidal solution and the subsequent jet coating is applied to fill in pin holes and surface irregularities in the coating formed during immersion and to reduce the formation of water-line marks on the coating. |
