<p>Power supply apparatus comprises a controlled power supply 101, such as a switched mode power supply, having a control input 18, a power input and a power output 3, the power supply providing an output based on control signals at the control input. At least a first regulator 104 is configured to use electrical power from the power supply to provide electrical power via output 11 to a load 2 such as one or more LEDs, the regulator output being a DC signal regulated to conform to a target level represented on a control signal at an input 26, wherein the first regulator comprises a detector to respond to detecting that the output of the controlled power supply has insufficient voltage or current to allow the regulator to provide the regulated DC signal conforming to the target level by generating a starved signal 17. A controller 107 is configured to adjust the control signal supplied to the controlled power supply based on the presence or absence of the starved signal.</p> |
