A 'up-and-over" door or as described vertically pivoted double doors of a garage are operated by a mechanism mounted on a plate 10 above the doors and comprises, a uni-directional electric motor 11 coupled to a drive shaft 13, two drums 16, 16a notatably mounted on said shaft, two cylinders 17a engaging with drums 16, 16a and mounted on an axially movable shaft 17 in such a manner that axial movement of shaft 17 in one direction causes one drum 16 to engage with a clutch plate 15 driven by shaft 13, and the other drum to rotate freely on the shaft and visa-versa, with regard to the drum 16a and a second clutch plate 15a. A cable C winds on or off the drums and after passing over a pulley on a plate 10a at the back of the garage, is attached to a slide 23, which supports two operating arms 22, 22a attached to the doors and which slides on a nod 24 running the length of the garage, the arms effecting opening and closing movement of the door upon sliding movement of the slide 23. Axial movement of shaft 17 is effected through a tongue 20 on a vertical shaft 19 rotated by door movement such that on the doors being completely closed the drum's 16, 16a are adjusted to perform opening movement when the motor is next energised. A sliding bolt 25 at the toip of one of the doors and a corresponding bolt at the bottom of the door are operated by door arm 22 so that on initial energisation of the motor, arm 22 moves forward and operates pivoted lever 27 to unfasten the bolts 25 and is locked in this position by a spring loaded pawl 28 engaging with projection 29 on the arm 22 to hold the lower bolt clear of the ground for opening movement. The bolts remain in this position until the doors are completely closed when projection 30 releases the pawl 28 and allows the arm 22 to move farther rearward and fasten the bolts to means of pivoted lever 27. The bolts may also be operated by lever 26 independantly of the power means. |
