1,103,022. Damped spring assembly. V. M. BRAUCHLI. 23 Feb., 1965 [9 March. 1964], No. 7727/65. Heading F2S. [Also in Division E2] The weight of an "up-and-over" door 5, whose movement is controlled by a lever 7 attached to the bottom of the door and by a guide rail R mounted above the top of the door 5, is counter-balanced by a spring-loaded telescopic push-rod 9 attached at one end 3a to the external door surround and at the other end to an extension 7b of the lever 7. The extension 7b is bent towards the door so that the thrust of the push-rod 9 holds the door in its closed and open positions. The push-rod 9 (Fig. 3) comprises inner and outer sleeves 11, 10 containing a pair of longitudinally arranged springs 16, 17 separated by a floating piston 13. A seal 18 is arranged between the inner and outer sleeves and the push-rod assembly is either filled with oil or pneumatically damped and contains an inner tube 12 and piston and rod device 14, 14a. By rotating one end of the push-rod assembly relative to the other end a nut member 15 is moved along the piston-rod 14 and adjusts the spring thrust. |
