PURPOSE: An edge mask control device for a cooling device and a control method thereof are provided to prevent the defects in products by adjusting edge masking patterns because a leaning direction of materials is detected by measuring the temperature of edges at both sides of a hot-rolled coil. CONSTITUTION: An edge mask control device for a cooling device comprises temperature sensors(12,14), a mask driving part(40), and a control part(30). The temperature sensors measure the temperature of edges at both sides of a hot-rolled coil. The mask driving part drives edge masks(52,54) of the cooling device. The control part determines the leaning direction of the hot-rolled coil depending on the temperature of the edges measured by the temperature sensors, and controls the mask driving part to adjust edge masking patterns.
