(1) Bleaching of polymeric materials by incorporation of: where A is an aromatic residue of a larger aromatic system, e.g. a non-substituted benzene group, naphthalene, a substituted benzene group without colour, or pyridine or quinoline; R is an aromatic radical, pref. carbocycli, e.g. phenyl or naphthyl; R' is H or an alky, aryl or aralkyl radical, e.g. alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, naphthyl, pyridyl, etc.; X is a divalent radical, including a CH2 group such as the CH2 group of a compound of formula (II), e.g. -CH2-, -CH2.CH2-, -CO-, -O.CH2-, capable of reacting with an aldehyde to give a ylidene derivative. A, R, R' and X being free from chromophoric groups. |
