The regulator has a valve (d) at the top of a tank (b) for allowing water to enter the tank during a strong tide, and a float valve provided at the bottom of the tank. The float valve (f) allows dirty water to be rejected from the bottom of the tank, where the float valve is closed for retaining clean water in the tank. The float valve limits the input volume of water, and allows rejection of an equal volume of dirty water at low tide, where the valves are closed by the weight of the valves after release of water from the tank.
