<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square battery cell outer dimension measuring device capable of precisely measuring with little variations in measured values. <P>SOLUTION: The square battery cell outer dimension measuring device includes: a side face positioning mechanism 22 that holds the outer peripheral surface of a battery cell 7 in a vertical direction and positions the battery cell 7 in a horizontal direction to determine vertical posture of the battery cell; a horizontal positioning mechanism 23 that can come in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the battery cell 7 in the horizontal direction and positions the horizontal surface of the battery cell 7 in the vertical direction; and means 20 that transfers the battery cell 7 from a loading plane to a conveyance jig 8. When measuring the outer dimension of the battery cell 7 in the vertical direction, the side face positioning mechanism 22 determines the position of the battery cell 7 in the horizontal direction and the vertical posture thereof. In a state in which the battery cell 7 is separated from the loading plane by the means 20, vertical direction outer dimension measuring means 12 measures the outer dimension of the battery cell 7 in the vertical direction. When measuring the outer dimension of the battery cell 7 in the horizontal direction, the horizontal positioning mechanism 23 determines the position of the battery cell 7 in the vertical direction.
